Shillong 3N,4D
Day 1: Shillong - The Scotland of the East
Arrive in the capital of Meghalaya, a city known for its colonial charm, pine-covered hills, and vibrant culture.
-
Ward’s Lake: Visit this century-old, horseshoe-shaped artificial lake located in the heart of the city. Surrounded by a botanical garden with cobblestone paths and orchid beds, it is perfect for a leisurely walk or a paddle boat ride.
-
Don Bosco Centre for Indigenous Cultures: Explore this massive seven-story museum that serves as the premier hub for learning about the diverse tribal cultures of the Seven Sister States. The galleries showcase artifacts, weapons, clothing, and musical instruments, capped with a skywalk offering views of Shillong.
-
Lady Hydari Park: Stroll through this Japanese-style garden landscaped with willow trees, rhododendrons, and small ponds. The park also houses a mini-zoo and a museum, making it a peaceful retreat within the city.
-
Cathedral of Mary Help of Christians: Visit this iconic bright blue cathedral, famous for its high arches and stained-glass windows. It stands on the site of the first church built by German missionaries and is an architectural landmark of Shillong.
-
Shillong Peak: Drive to the highest point in the state (1,965 meters). From the viewing tower, enjoy a panoramic 360-degree view of Shillong city spread out like a map, with the Himalayas visible on clear days.
Day 2: Crystal Waters & The Cleanest Village
A full-day excursion to the southern border of Meghalaya to witness nature’s clarity and community-led conservation.
-
Umngot River (Dawki): Witness one of the clearest rivers in India. The water here is so transparent that boats appear to be floating in mid-air, with the riverbed rocks clearly visible 15-20 feet below. Enjoy a boat ride through the emerald-green waters surrounded by steep gorges.
-
Indo-Bangladesh Border (Tamabil): Visit the friendship gate at the international border. Standing at the "No Man's Land," you can see the sprawling plains of Sylhet in Bangladesh and the busy trade activities between the two nations.
-
Mawlynnong Village: Walk through "God’s Own Garden," awarded the title of Asia’s Cleanest Village. The village is renowned for its manicured flower gardens, bamboo dustbins at every corner, and 100% literacy rate.
-
Single Decker Living Root Bridge (Riwai): A short hike from Mawlynnong takes you to this bio-engineering marvel. Created by the Khasi people by training the roots of the rubber tree (Ficus elastica) across a stream, this bridge is a living, breathing structure that grows stronger with time.
Day 3: Cherrapunjee (Sohra) - Land of Waterfalls
Journey to the wettest place on earth, a landscape dominated by dramatic cliffs, plunging waterfalls, and ancient caves.
-
Nohkalikai Falls: Stand before the tallest plunge waterfall in India. The water cascades down 1,115 feet from a verdant plateau into a deep turquoise pool below, creating a mesmerizing sight that is the face of Meghalaya tourism.
-
Mawsmai Cave: Explore this historic limestone cave system. Unlike difficult spelunking sites, Mawsmai is well-lit and accessible, allowing you to walk through narrow passages to admire the stalactites, stalagmites, and fossils etched into the walls.
-
Seven Sisters Falls (Nohsngithiang Falls): View the fourth-highest waterfall in India, where seven distinct streams plunge down sheer limestone cliffs during the monsoon season. The falls are best viewed from the roadside viewpoint, especially when the setting sun illuminates the water.
-
Eco Park: Located on a plateau, this park offers a bird’s-eye view of the "Missing Falls" and the vast Sylhet Plains of Bangladesh. It is known for its hybrid orchids and clear views of the deep canyons.
-
Dainthlen Falls: Visit this legendary waterfall where, according to folklore, a massive evil serpent was killed by the locals. The rock carvings near the falls are said to represent the snake's struggle.
Day 4: Departure
-
Umiam Lake (Barapani): En route to the airport, stop at this massive man-made reservoir. Surrounded by sylvan hills and coniferous forests, the lake is known for its scenic beauty and water sports complex. It serves as a perfect final photo opportunity.
