Day 1: Imphal - History & Heritage of the Jewel City

Arrive in Imphal and immerse yourself in the rich history of the Manipuri kings and the spiritual essence of the city.

  1. Kangla Fort: Explore the ancient seat of power for Manipuri rulers. This sprawling complex is surrounded by a massive moat and houses incredible relics, including the sacred Govindaji Temple, the distinct Kangla Sha (dragon statues), and the lush green grounds that served as a British garrison.

  2. Shree Govindajee Temple: Visit this historic Vaishnavite temple located next to the royal palace. Known for its twin golden domes and large paved courtyard, it is the spiritual center of the region, dedicated to Lord Krishna and Radha.

  3. Cheirao Ching: Venture to this scenic hillock that offers the best panoramic view of Imphal city and the surrounding valley. It is a popular hiking spot and holds immense religious significance, particularly during the Cheiraoba festival.

  4. Manipur State Museum: Walk through galleries showcasing the diverse tribal heritage of the state. The museum houses a rare collection of royal costumes, ancient weaponry, polo equipment, and historical documents that narrate the story of Manipur.

  5. RKCS Art Gallery: Witness the history of Manipur painted on canvas. This gallery features a mesmerizing collection of oil paintings that depict the mythology, history, and cultural evolution of the state, maintained by a renowned family of artists.

Day 2: Moirang - War History & Floating Meadows

A day dedicated to the legendary Loktak Lake region, World War II history, and scenic landscapes south of the capital.

  1. INA Museum (Moirang): Step into a crucial chapter of India's freedom struggle. This museum is located where the Indian National Army (INA) flag was first unfurled on Indian soil. It displays war paraphernalia, letters, and photographs of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose.

  2. Japanese War Memorial (Red Hill): Visit the India Peace Memorial located at Red Hill (Lokpaching). This site marks the location of a fierce battle between Allied and Japanese forces. The monument, built by the Japanese government, stands as a serene symbol of peace amidst a beautiful garden.

  3. Keibul Lamjao National Park: Experience the world’s only floating national park, located on the southern edge of Loktak Lake. This swampy wetland is famous for the Phumdis (floating biomass) and is the only natural habitat of the endangered Sangai (dancing deer).

  4. Geljang Resort: Travel towards the Churachandpur distinct to visit this scenic resort area. Perched on a gentle slope, it offers sweeping views of the glorious countryside and is a perfect spot for photography and experiencing the tranquil atmosphere of the southern hills.

Day 3: Imphal to Kohima - The Battle of Tennis Court

Journey by road to the capital of Nagaland, a city etched in history for its decisive role in WWII and its vibrant tribal culture.

  1. Kohima War Cemetery: Pay your respects at this beautifully maintained memorial dedicated to the soldiers of the Allied 2nd Division who died in World War II. The cemetery is built on the site of the famous "Battle of the Tennis Court" and features the famous epitaph: "When you go home, tell them of us and say, for your tomorrow, we gave our today."

  2. Nagaland State Museum: explore the rich tapestry of Naga culture. The museum exhibits a rare collection of artifacts including traditional Naga costumes, jewelry, precious stones, and the majestic log drums used by the tribes for communication.

Day 4: The Green Village & Departure

Before leaving, explore one of Asia's most unique villages, known for its conservation efforts and warrior history.

  1. Khonoma Village: Visit Asia's first "Green Village," located about 20 km from Kohima. This Angami tribal village is famous for its community-led conservation, banning hunting and logging. Walk through the stone path gates (Kharu), see the traditional forts, and admire the breathtaking terraced paddy fields carved into the hills.

  2. Departure: Proceed to Dimapur Airport/Railway Station for your onward journey, carrying memories of the hills and valleys of the Northeast.
